M64 is a barred spiral galaxy

It was discovered in March 1779 by Edward Pigott

​

It is approximately 17.3 million light years away.

​

It is best observed in spring, when it is in the southern sky.

​

It can be seen as a spot in a telescope with a diameter of 10 cm.

 

M64 has a diameter of 54,000. light years.
