The Lagoon Nebula is a hydrogen-rich emission nebula.

According to scientists, in this nebula a lot of new stars are born, which are formed in the so-called "globules" (small dark points in the photo between the nebula's clouds).

It was discovered by Giovanni Podjerne before 1654.

It is best observed during the summer from mid to late summer in the southern sky.

It can be observed with medium-sized binoculars with a hydrogen or UHC filter screwed in.

The distance from Earth of this nebula is 4,100 light years.

The size of this nebula is approximately 110 x 40 light years.
