It is a reflection nebula that is illuminated by the Pleiades star cluster (commonly called the 7 sisters).

Distance from Earth: approximately 444 light years.

​

It is best observed from autumn to spring in the eastern, southern and western skies.

 

The Pleiades can be observed with the naked eye, but to see the nebula itself you need to use at least medium-sized astronomical binoculars.

​

This nebula has an estimated size of 43 light years.

​

In ancient times and the Middle Ages, the Pleiades were one of the navigation signs in the night sky.
