A hydrogen-rich emission nebula formed about 4 million years ago.

It was discovered by Lewis Swift in 1865.

It is approximately 5,200 light years away from Earth.

It is best observed in winter in an area where the southern part of the sky is exposed.

You can observe it with large binoculars with a hydrogen filter installed.

The Rosette Nebula spans approximately 130 light-years.

At the center of the nebula is the cluster NGC 2244, which was discovered earlier than the nebula itself.
