The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is an emission nebula that is very rich in hydrogen.
It was discovered in August 1893. by Edward Barnard.
Distance from Earth: approximately 2,400 light years.
It is best to observe it in summer.
To observe the nebula, you should use at least medium-sized binoculars with a hydrogen or UHC filter screwed in.
This nebula has an estimated size of 43 light years.
Many new stars are born in this nebula. This nebula was blown away from the star by strong stellar winds.HD 206267.
In the upper right corner of the nebula is the star Garnet, which is 283ys. times brighter than the sun.
